The elephant stomp
Tuscaloosa starts filling up two days before anybody plays anything and it does not thin out until Sunday.
By Friday the lawn in the middle of campus is a small city. Tents in rows with televisions running off generators, and families set up on the same square of grass their parents used, close enough to hear each other's broadcast.
An hour out, the band sets up on that same lawn and plays the crowd toward the stadium. It's called the Elephant Stomp, Big Al works the edges of it, and by the end the whole lawn is moving in one direction.
Nobody here treats a Saturday as a small thing. Dress like it.
